Sacramento Kings Receive: C Christian Wood, G Eric Gordon, G Kevin Porter Jr., 2024 First-Round Pick (BKN)
Houston Rockets Receive: G De’Aaron Fox
This trade may help the Sacramento Kings’ short-term outlook.
Kevin Porter Jr. may not be a traditional point guard, but he’s a better fit than De’Aaron Fox on paper next to Sabonis. He hit 37.5% of his three-point attempts this season. He was particularly effective in catch-and-shoot scenarios. That happens to be precisely the type of look he’d feast on alongside Sabonis.
Meanwhile, Christian Wood also spent the season arguably out-of-position for the Houston Rockets. He suited up at center and found himself getting bullied by opposing bigs regularly. This trade shifts him to the four alongside Sabonis, where he’ll provide excellent spacing and probably suffer less guarding the perimeter.
Finally, Eric Gordon is a tailor-made floor spacer. That’s virtually all he did for several years alongside ball-dominant superstar James Harden. This trade lands the Kings a trio of quality players who would maximize Sabonis’s effectiveness.

The Rockets probably won’t part with Porter Jr and a pick just to land Fox. This front office seems enamored with the troubled-yet-talented guard/wing. Still, they’d have to consider this.
Fox is an undeniably upgrade, and more importantly, he’s undeniably a point guard. Moving off Wood and Gordon’s contracts should be a bonus for a rebuilding club.

They may be excited about the future of a Kevin Porter Jr. and Jalen Green backcourt, but with the addition of De’Aaron Fox, they may also forget about those aspirations sooner than later.
