The Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks have had quite a recent history of doing business together. If you think back pre-pandemic to the February 2019 deadline – the Kristaps Porzingis trade caused quite a stir in New York.
This potential trade would involve a straight swap between Evan Fournier and Mavericks’ Tim Hardaway Jr. A deal that would see Hardaway Jr return to the Knicks for a third stint. For both teams, it would be a low-risk move that allows them to swap their underperforming sharpshooters. With hopes that a change of scenery may lead to a rejuvenation of form.
Given Fournier’s offensive ability, he could become a key component of the Mavericks’ offense. The acquisition of Dinwiddie has undoubtedly improved Dallas offensively thus far. But the Mavericks could still do with another player that can create their own shot.
Luka Doncic currently has the highest usage rate in the NBA – with only Jalen Brunson and Dinwiddie able to help shoulder ballhandling responsibilities. Fournier would be giving the Mavericks another weapon to utilize next to Doncic, Brunson, and Dinwiddie.

Doncic also loves to operate out of the high pick and roll. Finding teammates on the perimeter for open looks. After an impressive shooting season for the Knicks in which he’s drained home 235 threes – Fournier could prove to be the perfect fit in the Mavericks system.
