There are going to be some major changes for the Los Angeles Lakers this NBA offseason. They were easily the most disappointing team this season, coming in with championship aspirations but not even qualifying for the NBA Play-In Tournament.
That kind of letdown is going to cost people jobs. Frank Vogel is expected to be relieved of his head coaching duties and there is a chance that Rob Pelinka is also removed from the front office.
Whoever takes over those jobs will be tasked with building and coaching what will certainly be a different-looking roster. Things didn’t click this season and changes are necessary. One of the players who has heard his name come up in rumors is Anthony Davis.
Davis’s injuries are one of the reasons that the season went off the rails in the fashion that it did. He played only 40 games this season, the second consecutive that he missed at least half the regular-season games.

Injuries, just like trade rumors, aren’t something that Davis can control. He discussed the rumors following the Los Angeles Lakers officially being eliminated from postseason contention earlier this week.
“I can’t control those things,” Davis told ESPN after the Lakers’ loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, which eliminated L.A. from play-in tournament contention. “That’s an upstairs thing. A Klutch, Rich Paul thing. My agency.
“I mean, my job is to go out and play basketball. Obviously, I love it in L.A. If that’s something that they’re considering, then we’ll have a conversation about it. I don’t know what they’re talking about, what’s the plan.”

Things were bleak for the Los Angeles Lakers this season and the future is cloudy as well. The team is lacking building blocks or draft capital to change that. Trading Anthony Davis would help the Lakers restock their roster and draft capital, but it would be shocking to see him moved.
Davis, when healthy, is still one of the best two-way players in the NBA. He showed just how good he can be with some of his performances in the last week despite playing on a very sore foot.

More than likely, Los Angeles will run things back with Anthony Davis and LeBron James as the go-to players and the pieces around them will change. This season’s roster was a mismatched one, evident by their win-loss record.
