Indiana Pacers Receive: F Rui Hachimura, G Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
Washington Wizards Receive: G Malcolm Brogdon
Are the Indiana Pacers rebuilding, or trying to compete now? Yes.
This club is notoriously averse to a full-scale teardown. The Pacers prefer to stay competitive even when retooling becomes an obvious necessity. This deal allows them to walk that line.
At 24, Rui Hachimura has arguably fallen short of expectations. He still has late bloomer potential with a nice blend of athletic qualities. It is worth noting that he’s connecting on 46.8% of his 2.8 three-point attempts per game this season, a massive improvement from the 32.8% he hit last season.
As an 8-year veteran, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has probably reached his ceiling. He’s still the type of prototypical 3-and-D every good NBA teams covet.

If the Indiana Pacers hope to be sneaky good next season, he’s the type of player they’ll need.
The Wizards have an obvious incentive to make this deal: Malcolm Brogdon is the best player in it.
