The Phoenix Suns have been the best team in the NBA this season pretty much from opening night. They came out of the gate strong and have been able to sustain that level of success no matter what obstacles were placed in front of them.

With a record of 61-14, the Suns have assured themselves that they will have the best record in the NBA, which means that the road to the NBA Championship could run through Phoenix. Usually, when you have a team succeeding at the level that the Suns are, players are being mentioned for accolades, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Phoenix doesn’t have anyone being mentioned in the running for awards at the end of the season, which some people believe isn’t right. One of those people that believe there is something afoul is Shannon Sharpe.

During a recent episode of UNDISPUTED on FS1, Sharpe spoke up about the lack of attention being given to Suns’ All-Star, Devin Booker. He believes Booker should be in the MVP discussion this season and provides a compelling argument for it.

A lot of the MVP talk has been centered around Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets and Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers. Both players deserve the recognition they are receiving, but so does Booker.

As Sharpe pointed out, 10 out of the last 15 NBA MVPs have been the leading scorer on the best team in the league, which would be Booker on the Suns. But, for whatever reason, Booker isn’t being held in the same regard as his peers.

This season, Booker is averaging 26.5 points per game, just short of his career-high number of 26.6. He is pulling down five rebounds, handing out 4.9 assists, and racking up 1.2 steals per game, which is a career-high.

Those certainly are numbers that should have Booker in the discussion for the award. How well the Suns are playing is something that should boost his resume as well, as team success is always factored into the voting.

Devin Booker is seemingly flying under the radar a little bit when it comes to national exposure, but people will see once again during the postseason just how good he and the Phoenix Suns are.
