The One Star The New York Knicks Should Target
When looking at the current roster, there is one glaring hole; the point guard position. A point guard has seemingly been a need in New York since Clyde Frazier was leading the team in the late 60s and through the 70s.
If they want to get back on track and compete for a playoff spot again next year, it is an area they have to address. That is why many people would say that Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers is the superstar that the New York Knicks need to target.
While he would address the need for a point guard, going on 32-years old, he likely doesn’t fit the team’s timeline. New York is more than one player away from contending.
De’Aaron Fox is someone that would better fit the timeline at only 24-years old, but the Sacramento Kings may no longer want to move him after trading Tyrese Haliburton for Domantas Sabonis.

Instead, the one star that the Knicks should target this offseason is Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz. While not a prototypical point guard, he is a good enough playmaker to run an offense and would bring that All-Star production the team needs.
The Utah Jazz could be looking at some sizable changes this offseason, especially if they have another early exit in the postseason. If that occurs, New York should aggressively pursue Mitchell.
