Giannis Puts Up Equal Numbers, If Not Better, Than Those At The Top Of The Race
When comparing Giannis Antetokounmpo’s stats to those of Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid this season, it is very hard to see where Embiid and Jokic separate themselves from Giannis.
Jokic may lead the league in triple-doubles and Embiid may lead the league in scoring, but Giannis has the “best of both worlds” in the sense that he ranks tied for 9th in the league in triple-doubles, ranks tied for 5th in double-doubles and is currently tied for the league-lead in scoring.
Giannis Antetokounmpo has never led the league in scoring and currently averaging a career-high 29.7 points per game, he could very well add another accomplishment and accolade to his already stuffed trophy case.
Whether it is scoring, rebounding, steals, blocks, true shooting percentage, win shares or any other advanced metric used to evaluate player performance, Giannis Antetokounmpo is right near the top in every single category this season.

Perhaps the statistic he ranks first in that may hold the most weight in MVP voting is the player efficiency rating (PER), which Giannis Antetokounmpo ranks first in the league in right now.
Giannis’ 32.6 PER is currently the best player efficiency rating for a season in NBA history and over the last several years, player efficiency rating has been very accurate in predicting the recipient of the league’s MVP award.
Should Giannis Antetokounmp maintain his lead in this category over Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid, it will be hard to make a case as to why he should not win the award.
