3. New York Knicks
Coming into the 2021-22 season, the New York Knicks seemed like front runners when it came to snagging an All-Star player on the move. They were riding high after earning the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference last season and had a strong foundation.
Julius Randle had ascended to All-Star and All-NBA status. RJ Barrett has the tools to also make it to that level, making them an intriguing landing spot for any high-level player looking for a new home. Unfortunately, things have unraveled this season.
New York is on the outside looking in for a spot in the Play-In Tournament and Randle has taken a step back after last season’s heroics. There were reports that the Knicks weren’t as intriguing of a landing spot for Damian Lillard, especially after they didn’t sign DeMar DeRozan.
Alas, while their chances may have dropped a bit, they should still be in the running. The Knicks desperately need a point guard and if the Trail Blazers are going to enter a rebuild, New York hasf the young pieces to build a package around.

Acquiring Lillard would help cement the New York Knicks as playoff contenders, but if they wanted to be title contenders, there would still be some work to do.
