All-NBA Second Team

G Chris Paul (Suns), G Luka Doncic (Mavericks), F Kevin Durant (Nets), F Jayson Tatum (Celtics), C Nikola Jokic (Nuggets)

Voting for the All-NBA First Team is fairly simple, as normally only one spot is up for discussion, but the Second Team is very difficult because you could make a case for a ton of players.

However, the Second Team this season is shaping up to be fairly straightforward. Obviously, Nikola Jokic is on this list since he and Joel Embiid are ineligible to be together on the All-NBA First Team and the other four members of this team above are well-deserving.

Starting with the backcourt, Chris Paul and Luka Doncic have each been two of the most dominant guards in the league this season and have led their teams to success.

Chris Paul has led the Suns to an NBA-best 48-10 record on the season and while he will miss the next 6-8 weeks, he has cemented his All-NBA status by leading the league in assists per game (10.7) and recording 31 double-doubles, tied with Giannis Antetokounmpo for the 6th most in the entire NBA.

Luka Doncic got off to a slow start on the season due to injuries and health protocols, but he was the most dominant player in the league entering the All-Star break. The young Mavericks star has scored at least 45 points in three of his last four games and is averaging 36.3 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 9.4 assists since the start of February.

The Mavericks are just 1.5 games back from the 4-seeded Utah Jazz in the Western Conference because of Luka and there may not be a better all-around offensive facilitator and playmaker in the league than Luka Doncic right now. He could even work his way up into the MVP conversation if he keeps up his 45-point nights!

While he has only played in 36 games due to injuries, Kevin Durant is the best scorer in the league when healthy. In his limited time on the court this season, KD was leading the league in scoring and was in the driver’s seat for MVP.

Kevin Durant will likely get All-NBA First Team votes, but he will most likely end up on the Second Team due to injuries.

The Celtics’ turnaround this season has been remarkable and it has mainly been because of how well Jayson Tatum has played. Still just 23-years-old, Tatum is one of the best pure scorers in the entire league and currently ranks 10th in scoring at 25.7 points per game.

There is no better scorer in this league on the wing, other than Kevin Durant than Jayson Tatum and after being snubbed from the All-NBA list last season, the young Celtics’ forward has proven to be an All-NBA talent throughout the course of this season.
