All-NBA First Team

G Stephen Curry (Warriors), G DeMar DeRozan (Bulls), F LeBron James (Lakers), F Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks), C Joel Embiid (76ers)

There really is no debate for who deserves to be on the All-NBA First Team this season, other than the fact that positions should not really matter.

Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic are No. 1 and No. 2 in the MVP race right now, regardless of who you have in first, which is why they should both be on the All-NBA First Team. However, the NBA only allows one center per team in the voting process, which is why they should just switch to the same format as the All-Star Game and have two backcourt talents, two frontcourt talents, and one “wild card” per All-NBA team.

Anyways, I do not make the rules, so we are just going to have to follow them as best as we can for these lists. Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and the winner of the MVP award in either Joel Embiid or Nikola Jokic will likely be unanimously selected to the All-NBA First Team this season.

Curry has the Warriors back in prime position to contend for a title and recently put everyone on notice during All-Star weekend, scoring 50 points and making 16 total threes in the All-Star Game. Giannis and Embiid are no-brainer selections as well, especially given that their two teams are championship contenders in the Eastern Conference and they are two of the best scoring talents in the entire league.

DeMar DeRozan and LeBron James could be shocking to some in terms of First Team selection, but they definitely deserve said honors.

The Bulls are tied for the top spot in the Eastern Conference at 38-21 this season and DeRozan has been a huge part of their success. He ranks third in the league in points per game at 28.1 points and has scored the most points out of anyone in the NBA this season with 1,547 total points.

Personally, I hope DeMar DeRozan is given forward eligibility on the All-NBA ballot simply because he has played small-forward/power-forward all year long for the Bulls. Not to mention, there are more backcourt players deserving to be on the All-NBA list than frontcourt talents this season.

While the Lakers have struggled this season, LeBron James has been having one of the best years of his career at 37-years-old. He has only played in 41 out of 58 games for the Lakers, which could have implications on the votes he receives, but he is averaging 29.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists and is shooting 52.2% from the floor.

DeMar DeRozan and LeBron James have been two of the best scoring wings in the entire NBA this season and deserve the recognition of being with Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Joel Embiid on the All-NBA First Team.
