Joel Embiid Wins Most Valuable Player Award

There are a lot of players still in the mix for Most Valuable Player this season and the award is still very much up for grabs, but it is Joel Embiid’s to lose at this point. 

Embiid has posted nine games with at least 40 points and 10 rebounds this season, which leads the league, and he currently leads the NBA in scoring at 29.6 points per game. 

The last true center to lead the league in scoring was Shaquille O’Neal during the 1999-2000 season, a year that ended in Shaq winning the league’s MVP award. Joel Embiid is well on his way to winning the NBA MVP award this season, especially if the 76ers can continue their hot-streak and potentially claim the 1-seed in the East. 

With the recent addition of James Harden, the 76ers definitely have a prime chance to jump in front of the Heat and Bulls for the 1-seed in the Eastern Conference this season and Joel Embiid has been on a tear lately.

Since the start of 2022, Joel Embiid has averaged 33.2 points (1st in NBA), 11.6 rebounds (6th in NBA), 5.1 assists and he has shot 51.9% from the floor. With 28 double-doubles this season, Embiid ranks tied for 13th in the league and he has recorded 7 double-doubles in his last nine games. 

The most dominant scoring big man in the league right now, Joel Embiid is the front-runner to win MVP this season and unless Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic or Stephen Curry do something unreal over the course of the next four-to-five weeks, this award will be going to Philadelphia’s big man.
