Why Dallas Mavericks Moved On From Kristaps Porzingis

There had been talks about the Dallas Mavericks looking to move on from Kristaps Porzingis this season, but there was no major chatter leading up to the trade deadline. Well, this is yet another example to prove that you just never know what to expect at the trade deadline every year! 

Since being traded to the Dallas Mavericks, Porzingis has continued to be a high-level big man and has proven to be a key scoring weapon, but durability concerns have clouded his future. 

Porzingis never played in more than 57 games in a season with the Mavericks due to injuries and before being traded to the Wizards, he had played in just 34 of the Mavericks’ 55 total games, missing close to 40% of the regular season.

Standing 7’3” and having the ability to knock down multiple three-point shots per game, Kristaps Porzingis can certainly be a game-changing talent, but as ESPN basketball analyst Tim Legler stated when this trade was announced, Porzingis is called the “unicorn” because you hardly ever see him on the floor! 

Durability is once again going to be a concern for Kristaps Porzingis in Washington, but the bigger question for the Wizards is now about their immediate future.
