How This Trade Impacts Charlotte Hornets
There’s a lot to like about the long-term outlook of the Charlotte Hornets with talents like LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges in the fold. They have an exciting offense but the team clearly lacks what it takes to get it done on defense.
There is a need for the Hornets to have a talented enough center to anchor the unit’s defense given the personnel they have out on the perimeter. Turner has been doing that for years for the Indiana Pacers. Whether it’s been alongside Domantas Sabonis or with on-ball liabilities like Darren Collision.
The Hornets used the NBA trade deadline to add Montrezl Harrell into the fold, but he’s not a long-term solution. He’s on an expiring deal as an undersized option, he simply is not viable defensively as a starter.
There would be some risk involved for the Hornets to trade for Turner when considering he will be playing on an expiring deal next season. The idea here for Charlotte would be to get an extension done.

It’s going to be a challenge for the Hornets to pay PJ Washington after having to hand out what will likely be a max for Miles Bridges. Including Washington in a trade for a difference-maker like Turner would be a helpful way to capitalize on his value.
