How This Trade Impacts Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks have some needs to continue cementing themselves as threats in the Western Conference. Adding another point guard to the mix to take some playmaking pressure off of Luka Doncic and Jalen Brunson, while also adding some more offensive firepower.

This deal with the New York Knicks accomplishes both. Kemba Walker has looked like a shell of his old self at times, but he has shown that he can still provide an offensive spark. He would fit in well as the team’s sixth man, leading the second unit as a go-to scorer and playmaker.

His shortcomings with the Knicks are more easily hidden on a team with a strong defense like the Mavericks. He would also be afforded the chance to play more of his style leading a second unit lacking go-to scorers.

Evan Fournier would help replace a lot of what the Mavericks are losing with Tim Hardaway Jr. being sidelined following surgery on his broken foot. In some regards, Fournier is an upgrade as he is playing much more efficiently than Hardaway was, averaging 17.5 points and knocking down 48.2 percent of his 3-pointers in his last 14 games.
