How This Trade Impacts Charlotte Hornets
There were few teams executing at a higher level on offense than the Charlotte Hornets in the early stages of the 2021-22 season. Now, things have slowed down a bit as they have just a 10th ranked offensive rating, but their defensive woes have persisted.
The Hornets currently hold a struggling 112.2 defensive rating (24th) on the season with Mason Plumlee simply being too underwhelming of an interior presence.
This trade with the Indiana Pacers would help them accomplish that. Myles Turner is an elite rim protector and it reflects in his average of 2.8 blocks per game. It also reflects on film in areas that do not show up in the box score. He is versatile as a big defender in ball screen situations and can handle switching.

While that is where Turner earns his keep, he has taken strides offensively this season as well. In years past, Turner was relegated mostly to floating around the perimeter as Domantas Sabonis had a lot of the offense run through him.
This season, however, Turner has been able to expand his offense a little bit and the results have been magnificent. He is in the midst of the best shooting season in his career and wants a bigger role.
