Would this trade make sense for the Detroit Pistons?
The Detroit Pistons are not in a position to focus much on players and their exact role. Instead, they should focus on adding a former lottery pick that is in need of a change of scenery. Mo Bamba fits this mold and would be able to continue to progress in an extended role in Detroit.
The Pistons have developed some young talent over the last two years. Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart were All-Rookie selections last season while Cade Cunningham continues to look like a future star.
Killian Hayes has struggled with injuries just like Bamba. The Texas product has been unable to remain on the court on a consistent basis and this has drastically impacted his growth. He could also benefit from playing under Dwane Casey. He is a veteran coach who has handled many big men and helped them improve.
The time has come for another to take the next step. Orlando decided to add Bamba when they had Nikola Vucevic in the rotation. He was unable to take the next step and it seems like his time in Orlando is coming to an end.

This is not a move that will severely impact the Pistons but it will give them another young player to build around. This is a low-risk move because of the package they would have to send and a high-reward if Bamba is able to take the next step.
