The Washington Wizards made some big changes in their backcourt this NBA offseason. They unloaded Russell Westbrook, trading him to the Los Angeles Lakers for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell and a 2022 first-round pick. They replaced him in what turned into a bigger trade later in the offseason.

Washington brought on Spencer Dinwiddie and Aaron Holiday in a massive five-team deal that involved some sign-and-trade deals. The Brooklyn Nets, Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs and Lakers were ultimately all involved.

At the start of the season, things were looking good for the Wizards. They were winning a lot of games and looked to be one of the most improved teams of the season. But, as things have moved along, they have regressed big time.

Washington is now in 10th place in the Eastern Conference and sinking in the standings. Bradley Beal is sidelined with a wrist injury, making matters even worse, as they are currently riding a six-game losing streak.

With about a week until the NBA trade deadline, the Washington Wizards need a shake-up. The future of their franchise could depend on getting back on track and earning a playoff spot as Beal’s impending unrestricted free agency will determine the direction the team goes in.

Washington has some pieces to make a trade and upgrade the roster. But, one person they are looking to move is Spencer Dinwiddie. Things have not worked out as they had hoped when they brought him on to be the starting point guard and they are now having some buyer’s remorse.

According to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, the Wizards “want to move Dinwiddie because he looks like a shell of his former self and his teammates don’t want him there.”

Well, that is certainly a blunt report from O’Connor. If there are going to be locker room issues from holding onto a player, as is being shared in that report, the Washington Wizards have to do something. However, the reasons they want to move on from him are going to be the same ones that make it difficult to move him.

Dinwiddie had plenty of suitors in the offseason, but given the lackluster production he has provided, it is likely those teams have waning interest. Washington could very well have to attach an asset, such as one of their young players or draft compensation, to move on from Dinwiddie.
