Would this trade make sense for the Houston Rockets?
It’s clear the priority for the Houston Rockets it to progress in their long-term rebuilding efforts. Having veteran players around is a helpful way resource for young players to have but when there is real value that can achieved in a deal, it’s important to capitalize.
Eric Gordon is 33-years-old and previously had durability concerns as the end of the James Harden era was playing out. Now, the talk about him is his strong production and ability to help a title contender.
As the old saying goes “strike while the iron is hot,” and that’s precisely what the Rockets need to look to be doing with Gordon in trade talks as the Feb. 10 deadline approaches.
The Rockets already have Alperen Sengun so the appeal of Jalen Smith as a trade return is not all that fantastic most likely. However, seeing what the young shot blocker can provide wouldn’t be a bad option. He may depart if he lands a larger offer in free agency, though.

Where the real appeal lies in this trade offer is in the future first-round pick. The Rockets would continue to add to their future draft capital and that’s mostly where their future is built on given the nature of the return they received in exchange for James Harden.
