Of course, the Houston Rockets have to be mentioned when discussing the first-overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. They finished with the worst record in the league last season but landed the second pick. This gave them a chance to select Jalen Green and give the team its next franchise player.
The Rockets still have some work to do this season. The front office has been aggressive when making moves and there are still plenty to make. Houston is not activating John Wall and this means he should be moved soon.
Christian Wood and Eric Gordon are other veterans that could be traded for assets. This would give the Houston Rockets a chance to put some more around Green.
What they really need is a chance to make the first pick in the draft — and they have to nail it. The Rockets currently have the worst record in the West and it is unlikely they have a drastic change anytime soon. This is a franchise that is in a complete rebuild and a first-overall pick would go a long way.

With the current state of the franchise, this might not be their only chance over the years to land a top pick. This means they all build through the draft until they can find a trade worthy or land a free agent.
