Does this trade make sense for the Orlando Magic?
The Orlando Magic really need to evaluate their future before next week’s trade deadline. They have done a great job of building a core of the future, but decisions need to be made about who will stay and who will be moved in the frontcourt.
Wendell Carter Jr. is not going anywhere after signing a four-year, $50M extension with the Magic, which now leads to questions being made about Mo Bamba’s immediate future.
The former 6th overall pick in 2018 is in the final year of his rookie contract, meaning now is the best time for the Magic to possibly trade Bamba for future value. There are also questions about Jonathan Isaac’s future with Orlando and if they should trade him ahead of the deadline next week.
There are just too many questions that need to be answered about this Magic frontcourt before they go out and trade for a highly paid forward like John Collins.

Maybe pairing him with high-level, young talents like Cole Anthony, Jalen Suggs and Franz Wagner could be advantageous to this organization, but they do not have a need for another power-forward and if John Collins is frustrated with losing in Atlanta, he is going to be furious playing with the Magic!
This is just not the right trade for the Orlando Magic to pursue right now and if they are going to be trading away anyone at the deadline, which seems highly likely, they will be doing so for future draft picks.
