Does this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?
Trading John Collins is certainly a possibility given that his fit is in question, but trading him for Jonathan Isaac does not make much sense. Should they trade Collins, the Atlanta Hawks need to be getting another key talent and/or a star-level player to pair with Trae Young.
Jonathan Isaac, while he could help the Hawks defensively, is going to be viewed as a liability from Atlanta’s point of view simply because he missed all of last season and because he has not played at all this season.
While he could very much get back on the court and be the same defensive force he used to be, Jonathan Isaac is not going to come back after the All-Star break and immediately fill the 31.7 minutes per game void Collins would leave behind.
It would take at least a month of playing for Isaac to get back up to speed in real game scenarios and by then, the Hawks’ playoff chances could already be gone.

If they are to trade John Collins, the Hawks need to be getting another star to pair with Trae Young, not a player that has been out due to injuries and will be a liability when he returns to the floor.
