Would this trade make sense for the Dallas Mavericks?
The Dallas Mavericks have a generational talent in Luka Doncic. That much is clear. While their first goal was to put another star alongside him, maybe they should take a different approach. They’ve won a title on the back of one superstar before, so why not use that same formula.
With a player like Doncic, it’s crucial to have shooters around him. Whenever he drives or makes plays, they need to have him surrounded by capable catch-and-shoot guys on the perimeter. There aren’t many better than Buddy Hield in that regard.
Adding Hield to the team could create a starting lineup of Luka Doncic, Jalen Brunson, Buddy Hield, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Dwight Powell. That would put three capable three-point shooters around Doncic, plus it would allow Tim Hardaway Jr. to permanently return to a sixth-man role.
Marvin Bagley III would be a solid player for Dallas to take a chance on, too. He may not have panned out in Sacramento, but maybe he just needs a change of scenery. If he can improve to a decent two-way forward, he could be a nice piece to have off the bench.

Maurice Harkless would simply be thrown in as a defensive-minded veteran presence, but he likely wouldn’t get much playing time. This would give the Mavs a chance to shake things up, though, and greatly improve the spacing around Doncic.
