The Atlanta Hawks pulled off a surprise run to the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals but fell short at the hands of the eventual NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks. Now, the team is struggling to even gain and hold onto a play-in spot ahead of the 2022 playoffs.

Atlanta has sorely struggled to defend at an acceptable level this season and that’s held down otherwise elite offensive results. For reference,

There has been numerous ideas floated around about potential options for the Hawks to make a splash trade at the February 10 deadline to bolster their team. Perhaps the original was a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers to land Ben Simmons but that encountered some issues with their unwillingness to take on Tobias Harris’ contract.

The next idea had been floated was a deal with the Detroit Pistons to land Jerami Grant to bolster the team’s talent on the wing and to make a strong impact defensively.

During the latest episode of The Lowe Post, Zach Lowe reported the Hawks are ‘not in’ on Jerami Grant at the moment and that trade discussions with the Detroit Pistons was likely based on old intel.

“They’ve been linked in recent reports to Jerami Grant. Personally, I think that’s old intel based on what I’ve heard and that they are not in on Jerami Grant right now.”

There doesn’t appear to be a great landscape for the Atlanta Hawks to pull off a trade to make a meaningful difference to their half-court defense at the February 10 deadline, at this point. Ben Simmons and Jerami Grant appear to be the main names out there on the wing.
