The Hornets have been looking to upgrade their frontcourt talent, specifically at center, for years now and while they did add Mason Plumlee this past offseason, he is nothing more than a “filler” for them at the moment.
Plumlee is not a long-term solution for this team, which is why the trade deadline presents them with an opportunity to solidify their starting-five for years to come.
Richaun Holmes is not the best big man that the Hornets could look to acquire, but he is on an affordable contract and would most definitely be a double-double threat every game for Charlotte. Since joining the Sacramento Kings ahead of the 2019-20 season, Holmes has averaged 13.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and has shot 65.4% from the floor.
Being an avid rebounder, strong finisher in the paint and a shot-blocking presence underneath, Richaun Holmes is everything that the Hornets are missing at the center position. As for Marvin Bagley III, his future does not appear to be in Sacramento anymore.

The Kings drafted Bagley second overall in 2018 to be their future at the power-forward position, but he has missed close to 50% of the Kings’ total games since they drafted him and both he and the team’s front-office have not seen eye-to-eye on things through the years.
Getting value that the Kings can build with/around for years to come at the expense of Holmes and Bagley is something that could wind up paying off for them, especially if they can add some versatile, young talents.
P.J. Washington (23) and Vernon Carey Jr. (20) are both young frontcourt pieces the Kings could add for more depth and Kelly Oubre Jr. has been having a fantastic season in Charlotte.

Averaging 16.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and shooting 44.8% from the floor, Oubre Jr. could be an affordable, key scorer that the Kings can add on the wing for more scoring depth next to De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton moving forward.
Both the Hornets and Sacramento Kings are expected to pursue trades at the NBA trade deadline this season, which is why they could both come together to strike a deal like this one.
