Would this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?

It seems odd that the Atlanta Hawks would want to move John Collins this soon after signing him back but that is what happens when a team struggles. As of now, Young is the only one safe in Atlanta. If the Hawks want to shed some cap and start over a bit, Collins could bring them one of the biggest returns.

This trade would be less about the return though as it would be shedding Collins. If he is truly unhappy with his role, he could join a team that would use him in a different way.

For Atlanta, they would take on Smart’s contract, which they could pair with Young or flip in another deal. There are options with this return and they would get some draft capital.

The offseason was thought to be a successful one for the Hawks after they were able to lock up their core. Instead, they could be focusing on sending one of the biggest pieces away.
