Does this trade make sense for the Cleveland Cavaliers?

Adding another backcourt talent to pair with Darius Garland would definitely help the Cleveland Cavaliers this season, but Buddy Hield has a lot to offer them as well both now and moving forward.

Being tied down to $61.5M through the 2023-24 season is definitely tough for a Cavaliers team that already has problems financially with Kevin Love’s large contract and Collin Sexton becoming a restricted free agent, but Hield is one of the best three-point shooters in this league.

Cleveland’s offense ranks 11th in the league right now, but they are just 20th in points per game and 15th in three-point shooting percentage on the year.

By adding Buddy Hield as a scoring and shooting threat off the bench, the Cavs would have everything they need to actually be a real playoff threat this season. Nobody wants to play the Cavaliers because of their length and if they were to add Hield to the rotation, this would be yet another headache for teams to try and figure out.

If you focus all your attention on guarding Mobley, Allen, and Markkanen in the paint, then Garland and Hield will have a field day raining down threes. If too much attention is put on Hield and Garland on the perimeter, then the big guys will go to town given their one-on-one matchups in the paint.

Buddy Hield could truly make the Cavaliers’ offense so much better than it truly is and while Isaac Okoro and Dylan Windler offer hope for the future, the Cavaliers have a chance to win right now. This is definitely a trade worth considering in Cleveland.
