Would this trade make sense for the New York Knicks?
With this trade, the New York Knicks would create a big three of De’Aaron Fox, RJ Barrett, and Julius Randle. While that core may not be good enough to win a title right now, if Fox and Barrett continue developing, it could be at that level down the line.
That’s the risk the Knicks would be taking with this trade. Giving up young rotational pieces is one thing, but they would be sacrificing a ton of draft assets. But if Fox pans out as the franchise point guard he projects to be, this would be a slam dunk of a deal.
New York’s starting lineup after this trade could look something like this – Fox, Alec Burks, Barrett, Randle, and Mitchell Robinson. Then they would still have players like Derrick Rose, Kemba Walker, Nerlens Noel, Cam Reddish, and others coming off the bench.
That’s not only a solid young core, but also a team that should easily be able to compete for the playoffs right now. New York would also get Maurice Harkless in this trade. While he’s not a regular rotation guy anymore, he could give them a defensive spark at times.
