Would this trade make sense for the Dallas Mavericks?
For the past few seasons, the Dallas Mavericks have been in the bottom tier of NBA defenses. However, this season, that script has been flipped. They are actually a top-five team when it comes to defensive rating (106.5). So, in theory, they could afford to add some offense (considering they rank 16th in offensive rating with a 109.5).
While Bogdan Bogdanovic has struggled a bit in terms of his scoring numbers, he’s still a fairly efficient shooter. His splits are down a lot from last year, but in the grand scheme of things, 35.4 percent is still decent. Plus, if he could get that number up to even 38 percent, he’d be one of the most consistent shooters on the Mavs.
Unfortunately, Tim Hardaway Jr. hasn’t panned out the way Dallas had imagined when they signed him to a costly contract extension this past offseason. Adding Bogdanovic to the team would give the Mavs another similar scoring option.
One of the two could easily come off the bench, giving Dallas plenty of scoring options all throughout the rotation. Right now, it’s just a lot of Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis, and Jalen Brunson. There isn’t much consistent scoring coming from Dallas’ wing rotation.

Losing Dorian Finney-Smith would be rough, but it would mean the Mavs don’t have to extend him this offseason. Trading him now would capitalize on his value and allow the Mavericks to bring in a (potentially) elite third or fourth scoring option.
