Would this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?
Something needs to change for the Atlanta Hawks. Holding a 17-25 record after 42 games is simply unacceptable. The expectations were raised after making an Eastern Conference Finals appearance, but the progression has not proved to be linear.
It has been a real challenge for this Hawks team to execute on defense at a sufficient level. It’s no secret as to why they have become increasingly linked to Ben Simmons in NBA trade rumors.
The two-man game with Simmons and Trae Young in the half-court could be a helpful option for the Hawks to have in order to further diversity their attack. It would give Atlanta another way of attacking a defense to create rim pressure as the flow of the typical game progresses.
The idea of acquiring Simmons would bring great change to the Hawks as a whole. John Collins surely would need to be moved in order to make room for Simmons at the four spot. That could net them a few intriguing pieces in a separate deal and is important to take into account.

Giving up Onyeka Okongwu and Jalen Johnson would be a worthwhile cost to land Simmons. Moving on from Danilo Gallinari’s contract is a helpful outcome of this deal, too.
