Would this trade make sense for the Houston Rockets?
There is little value for the Houston Rockets to hold onto Christian Wood long-term. The team already has an intriguing center option to develop in Alperen Sengun.
Wood joined the Rockets with the intent of contending at a high-level playing alongside James Harden. He is now on what is the worst team in the Western Conference. Naturally, it would seem as though the timeline of Wood and the current state of the Rockets does not align.
For the Rockets, this trade would be the organization agreeing with that sentiment and moving Wood for some value in return. they would land a recent first-round pick in Josh Green to add to their core along with a future first-round pick to add extra value.
Dwight Powell would be involved in this deal as a salary filler. He is signed through the 2022-23 season and would not be a long-term part of the Rockets.

The Rockets could even use Powell’s contract when it’s an expiring deal to take on a different unfavorable contract while adding an asset in the process.
