The future of Portland Trail Blazers superstar point guard Damian Lillard is as cloudy as ever. While he has been adamant that he will not be requesting a trade elsewhere, that doesn’t necessarily rule out a trade being done involving the NBA All-Star.
Lillard’s future very well could depend on the plan that is laid out by whoever takes over the front office. Neil Olshey, who had no intentions of breaking up the roster, was fired after an investigation into the workplace environment and behavior.
Olshey was a big backer of Lillard and likely would have signed him to the massive two-year extension he will be seeking this upcoming offseason. That two-year, $107 million extension seems to be a sticking point when it comes to interviewing candidates for the job.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, candidates are hoping to receive the okay from ownership to be able to trade Lillard sooner than later, not sign an extension to lengthen his current deal. The future of the franchise will be determined by where the next hire stands on that point.
