How This Trade Impacts Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics have said they have no interest in trading Jaylen Brown right now. They want to build up the roster around him and Jayson Tatum, but there have been some rumors that they could entertain the idea of trading Brown sooner than later.
Once that time rolls around, they will be looking to land an impactful player in return, as they will intend to continue trying to compete. This deal with the Los Angeles Lakers does that, as Anthony Davis, when healthy and engaged, is one of the best players in the NBA.
Davis helps fill the gap in the Celtics’ frontcourt, which has been an issue for years. They have been on the hunt for a versatile frontcourt player in the past and there aren’t much better than Davis.
Boston’s roster is also constructed so that Davis could spend a majority of his time at power forward, which he prefers.

This deal also adds plenty of depth to Boston’s backcourt, as Kendrick Nunn and Wayne Ellington are both solid contributors. They would bolster the second unit, allowing Ime Udoka to leave Dennis Schroder in the starting lineup.
Davis and Tatum would give the Celtics two elite building blocks, but the point guard position would still remain an issue. Balancing out the roster is something that has been discussed for the Celtics, but making this deal would leave them without assets to upgrade that spot.

Surrendering two first-round picks, after trading away their 2021 pick to part ways with Kemba Walker, is something ownership may not sign off on either. However, the Celtics have struggled to find value in the draft, so parting ways with picks for an established talent in Davis could be easier to stomach.
