Why the Milwaukee Bucks would not want to make this trade

The Milwaukee Bucks finished with the best record in the NBA during the 2019-20 season at 56-17, but they failed to make the Eastern Conference Finals that year. So, they went out and acquired Jrue Holiday to be their starting point guard, giving up multiple draft picks and key talents in the process.

In their first season with Holiday at the helm of their team, the Bucks finished with a 46-26 record and went on to win the NBA Finals in six games. Jrue Holiday was the missing piece for this team and he is the “glue” on both ends of the court that holds them together.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is a 2x MVP and a superstar talent on both ends of the floor and Khris Middleton has turned himself into an elite-level scorer on the wing, but what this team was missing over the years was a floor general who could make plays for his team on offense and then do all the little things and/or “dirty work” on the defensive end of the floor.

Jrue Holiday has done just that and then some for Milwaukee over the last year, which is why trading him for Ben Simmons makes zero sense right now. The idea of pairing two 7-foot All-Stars in Giannis and Simmons together is definitely intriguing, especially since these are two First-Team All-Defense type players, but “if it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it.”

The Bucks’ system right now with Holiday, Middleton, and Giannis is not broken whatsoever, even if their record says otherwise. Milwaukee is only 6-8 right now, but Holiday missed six games already this year and Middleton has missed eight games!

At full strength, the Milwaukee Bucks will be championship contenders once again and come playoff time, they are going to be an extremely tough team to beat in a seven-game series. They proved that they could win a championship last year with Jrue Holiday as their starting point guard, so there is no reason for them to trade him away.
