Would this trade make sense for the Portland Trail Blazers?

When you look at the Portland Trail Blazers, they have multiple guys in Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, Norman Powell, and others who can score on any given possession, but what exactly is this team missing?

Let’s take a look at the fact that they rank 28th in the league in defensive rating and are giving up an average of 111.0 points per game, the 5th most in the league this season.

It is hard to win games when your opponent is consistently scoring over 110 points and so far this season, the Blazers have allowed at least 110 points to their opponents in 16 of their 19 losses.

Getting better defensively is the only way this team can better themselves this season, which is why someone like Jerami Grant could hold a lot of value in Portland. He is a terrific on-ball defender and can defend perimeter-to-post, giving the Blazers everything they are missing right now.

Obviously, one guy who is not an All-Star would not change the entire dynamic of this team and make them immediate title threats, but Jerami Grant would be the last-ditch effort this front-office could make in a trade to avoid blowing things up.

They cannot bring in another All-Star talent given their cap situation and they need to do something to make Damian Lillard happy, which is why getting Grant makes a whole lot of sense for the Portland Trail Blazers.

Not to mention, he would give them a huge boost on offense. Portland ranks 13th in the league in offensive rating and are scoring an average of 108.1 points per game, 15th best in the league. By adding another high-level scorer, Portland could maybe jump inside the Top-10 in both offensive categories, which could ultimately help take some pressure off of their defense.
