Karl-Anthony Towns Makes Boastful Claim About Shooting Ability

Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns has been regarded as one of, if not the best, offensive centers in the NBA. He can score from virtually anywhere on the court, punishing mismatches in post-ups or stretching the floor with ease from the 3-point line.

Towns has averaged 23 points per game in his career and is a premier offensive player. He leaves something to be desired sometimes defensively, but when you can produce at the level that he does offensively, sometimes people will let it slide.

This season that offense has been on display nightly and people are beginning to take notice as the Timberwolves are winning more games. Currently 15-15, Minnesota is right in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race.

People will take notice of Towns’ excellent offensive skill set even more if the Minnesota Timberwolves are playing meaningful games into the spring. And if they don’t see it for themselves, Towns will let them know about it.

In a recent interview with Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, Karl-Anthony Towns very confidently said that he is the best shooting big man to ever play in the NBA. It was an informed opinion from Towns because he could very well be right.

“I’m the greatest big man shooter of all time. That’s a fact,” Towns told The Athletic in a recent interview. “You can see the stats. I ain’t got to play like no one else. Everyone trying to find themselves to be the second version of me when I’m the first version. I don’t got to be the second version of someone else. I’m already an original. I don’t have to be a duplicate of someone else.”

Towns has been an excellent shooter in his career, making 39.7 percent of his career attempts from behind the arc. Dirk Nowitzki, whom many believe to be the best shooting big man of all time, has numbers that Towns can compare to.

According to BasketballNetwork.net, Nowitzki made 667 3-pointers through the first six seasons of his career, making 37.2 percent of his attempts. During that same span in his career, Towns made 39.4 percent of his attempts, knocking down 629 total.

Towns is making 41.8 percent of his 3-point attempts this season and is well on his way to challenging Nowitzki’s career number of 3-pointers made of 1,982 on 38 percent. As long as the Kentucky product can remain healthy, he will challenge those numbers.
