Does this trade make sense for the New York Knicks?
If the New York Knicks want to make it back to the playoffs and have a chance to compete in a seven game series, then they are going to have to be willing to make moves like this one. Malik Beasley is not a “household name” in the NBA, but he is a solid complimentary player that the Knicks could use to open up a lot of space on the floor.
Right now, this team ranks 15th in the league in offensive rating and they are only averaging about 37.9 made shots per game, which is the fourth-worst in the entire league.
Julius Randle can only do so much for this team and with the three-point shot becoming a key part of the Knicks plan of attack, adding Malik Beasley is a move that does make sense.
He has currently made 74 threes this season, the second-most on the Minnesota Timberwolves’ roster, and with him shooting 34.1% from deep, Beasley would be yet another perimeter threat that the Knicks could move around the floor.

Fixing their defense is obviously a main priority, but the number one problem with the Knicks last season was the fact that they could not score in the postseason against Atlanta.
Randle was being neutralized, R.J. Barrett’s opportunities were limited and outside of those two, New York did not really have anyone else they could feel comfortable with putting the ball in their hands.
Evan Fournier and Malik Beasley are not high-volume scoring weapons, but they are guys who can easily get hot and make multiple three-points every single night. Pairing these two with each other on the perimeter makes the Knicks a little harder to guard on offense, creating better scoring opportunities for everyone on this roster.

Giving up Kemba Walker and Kevin Knox is not a loss at all for this team and while Jake Layman does not bring much value, he too is another guy that they could have on their bench that has shown the ability to come into games and knock down three-point shots.
The New York Knicks showed interest in bringing in Malik Beasley last year, so interest in him could still exist within this front-office.
