Does this trade make sense for the Detroit Pistons?
Feeling out Jerami Grant’s value is not a bad idea for the Pistons right now, but they should have no thoughts about trading him. This team is still years away from growing into a playoff threat in the Eastern Conference, but a core of Grant, Cunningham, Bey and others does look very promising at the moment.
Not having a first-round pick in the 2022 NBA Draft definitely limits the Pistons ability to continue to add onto their young core, which is why if they were to trade Jerami Grant, they would not only need to be adding at least two first-round picks between 2022 and 2025, but they would need to be acquiring a young, proven talent as well.
Eric Paschall and Elijah Hughes do not fit this description from Utah and getting a 2026 first-round pick does nothing for this franchise’s ability to continue their rebuilding efforts.
There are going to be a lot of teams interested in Jerami Grant and they will definitely be willing to leverage the said assets to acquire him. The Jazz do not have these assets, which is why this trade with them is not worthwhile for the Pistons.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: One Major Caveat For Any Team In Jerami Grant Trade
Overall, Detroit should not really want to trade Jerami Grant either because he is the leader of this young team. Grant is only 27-years-old and playing the best basketball of his career right now, so unless they are getting a “king’s ransom” for trading him, no trade is going to be worth it for them.
