Do The Philadelphia 76ers Benefit From Making This Trade?

Trading Ben Simmons to the Cleveland Cavaliers could be something that ultimately happens, but there are two things wrong with this scenario for the Philadelphia 76ers. The first is that Simmons would remain in the Eastern Conference, which is something they would not prefer to have happen, and second, what do the 76ers have to gain from this deal?

Ricky Rubio is really the only solid addition for this team next to all the draft compensation they get from Cleveland, but draft picks do not really do anything to help the 76ers’ chances of contending for a title now.

Isaac Okoro would not fit in whatsoever because he needs the ball in his hands to be effective and the 76ers have plenty of other high-impact role players on the wing that would play over him. As for Windler and Osman, the same can be said about them and Osman’s contract is not favorable for the 76ers.

This would have to be a multi-team deal for Simmons to go to Cleveland and it is just not feasible to believe that they could pull this off. A deal of Osman, Windler and Okoro is not good enough for any All-Star-level talent in this league, which is why the Cavaliers have a slim chance of landing Ben Simmons.

When you look at the 76ers as a whole, they have their MVP-like candidate in Joel Embiid, a solid number two option in Tobias Harris and a bunch of secondary role players like Tyrese Maxey, Seth Curry and Danny Green. Ben Simmons was the third star on this team and while he did struggle at times, he played his role really well for what this team needed.

In order to trade Simmons, the 76ers do not necessarily need someone like Bradley Beal or Damian Lillard coming back in return, but they need someone who can be relied upon to be a primary scorer next to Embiid and when he is off-the-court, as well as someone who can create for themselves.

There are very few players like this on the trade block this season and the Cavaliers do not have any of them, which is why the Philadelphia 76ers will not be making this trade anytime soon with Cleveland.
