Does this trade make sense for the Portland Trail Blazers?

Getting Jerami Grant would be a huge step in the right direction for Portland, regardless of what assets the Trail Blazers would have to give up, however, this front-office has a really big decision to make and it could really impact whether or not this trade would make sense for them.

Figuring out their future and whether or not they are on the verge of a rebuild is the most important thing Portland needs to figure out right now because if they go and acquire Jerami Grant, they need CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard to stay long-term. 

If one of them is already one foot out the door, then going after Grant does not make sense because he is only under contract for one more season and the amount of future value they would have to give up is just way too much for a franchise that would be forced to rebuild. 

There is no denying that Jerami Grant could help this team right now, but it seems like a rebuild is inevitable in Portland. They do not have a lot of draft capital, they do not have many future assets and the Trail Blazers have no cap space, which puts them in a very bad spot right now.

Adding Jerami Grant gives them a better chance to succeed and make the playoffs this year, but this trade would not make the Portland Trail Blazers championship contenders.

If they are to be giving up their top two young talents, a key role player, plus two unprotected first-round picks, the Blazers better be getting a top-of-the-line talent and they would not be in this trade with the Pistons. 

All-Stars like Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram are the types of players the Blazers should make this deal for, not Jerami Grant. This is not a knock to the kind of player Grant is, because he is a high-level talent in this league, but he is not the right player for the Blazers to target at the trade deadline this year, especially given what the future may hold for them.
