Does this trade make sense for the Indiana Pacers?
The Indiana Pacers are heading towards a rebuild and with Myles Turner being on the trade block for quite some time now, it should not be surprising to see them finally pull the trigger and move him. He is expendable to this team and while he is an anchor for their defense, the Pacers could easily find success having Domantas Sabonis and P.J. Washington in the frontcourt together.
Last season, Washington really took some strides to become a key frontcourt talent in this league and so far this season, he has continued to impress offensively. In 15 games, P.J. Washington is averaging 10.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and is shooting 45.5% from the floor, 44.8% from three-point range.
Having a dynamic, versatile, and athletic forward like him, the Pacers could move Sabonis over to the center spot on the floor and also have Mason Plumlee as a rotational big man, giving them more depth than they have in the frontcourt.
This trade also lands the Pacers another young frontcourt talent in Kai Jones, who we said before was someone they were targeting in the first round of this past year’s draft.

Both he and Isaiah Jackson would be long-term building blocks this team could play around with and throw into many different roles either at the power forward or center position, making for a very dynamic and athletic-looking frontcourt in Indiana.
The Pacers do not need to trade Myles Turner this season, but it is looking more and more likely that they will. He only has one more year left on his contract after this season and with the Pacers struggling, it would make sense for them to make moves that lead them to a small rebuild.
