San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs have missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first-time in franchise history and they are looking to avoid making it three consecutive seasons.
Currently 8-14, this young Spurs team has shown a lot of resilience so far this season and really are not that bad of a team, they just simply do not have an identity at the moment.
Dejounte Murray, Derrick White and Keldon Johnson are all young, high-level talents on this roster, but there really is no veteran leadership on this team and while mostly every other team in the league has an All-Star-level player, San Antonio does not.
A case could definitely be made for Murray taking that “next step” of his career this season, as he is averaging 19.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists, but what this team needs in order to continue finding success is a proven All-Star that they can lean on for production.

Outside of Jakob Poeltl, this team has not reliable frontcourt talents, which is why going out and trading for Sabonis could immediately throw the Spurs back into the playoff picture.
Assuming they could hold onto Murray and Johnson, the Spurs would still have their athletic youth, as well as a key All-Star that they can play through on the offensive-end of the floor.
Pick-and-roll situations with Dejounte Murray and Domantas Sabonis would be extremely hard for teams across the league to defend not only because of Murray’s athleticism to turn the corner and drive to the rim, but because Sabonis is a terrific finisher in the lane off the roll.
Giving up Thaddeus Young, Devin Vassell, Lonnie Walker IV and some draft compensation for Domantas Sabonis may just be enough return value for the Pacers to make this trade with the Spurs. San Antonio would be losing some depth and future value, but at the same time, Sabonis is only 25-years-old and can be their All-Star leader for many years to come.
