Does this trade make sense for the Dallas Mavericks?

Trading for Myles Turner would be a great acquisition for this Dallas Mavericks team, but it is very unlikely that they would be able to pull off this trade with these assets. Dwight Powell, Sterling Brown and Josh Green do not bring much value to the table and quite honestly, the Mavericks do not have a lot of tradable assets.

Maxi Kleber and Dorian Finney-Smith are probably their best two trade assets in terms of immediate value for a team, but the Mavs have been unwilling to offer up either forward in trade talks with teams around the league ever since the offseason.

It is definitely much more likely to assume that the Dallas Mavericks will look to use their trade exception this season. Having the ability to absorb a contract up to about $11M, the Mavericks could add a really solid rotational player to their roster at the cost of a bench talent like Trey Burke or Moses Brown.

Giving up Dwight Powell, Sterling Brown and Josh Green are definitely possibilities as well for this team, but there is just no way that they could convince the Pacers to make this deal.

They would have to throw in at least 1-2 more first-round picks for the Pacers to feel comfortable with the value they are receiving and at that point, the deal would not be worthwhile for the Mavericks.

While they currently have a winning record and are in the playoff picture early on in the season, the Mavericks are still a long way away from being title threats. Luka Doncic is one of the best players in the league, but he cannot carry this team alone.

Doncic needs another superstar or high-level talent next to him and Kristaps Porzingis just has not pulled his weight since joining Dallas ahead of the 2019-20 season. Porzingis can still be a key talent in this system, but he can no longer be the No. 2, All-Star-like talent he once was due to injuries.

Tim Hardaway Jr. is also another key talent on the offensive-end of the floor, but he too is nowhere close to being this All-Star-level threat the Mavericks need. While he is not an All-Star, Myles Turner would absolutely be a key talent for them to trade for.

Getting other teams involved in this deal with the Pacers is the only way the Mavericks would have a shot to land Turner, but Dallas fans should not get their hopes up too much.
