Should the Los Angeles Lakers pursue this trade?
The Los Angeles Lakers should absolutely pursue this trade with the Detroit Pistons, but it is highly unlikely that they would be able to get a deal done for Grant. Talen Horton-Tucker is a great young talent that shows a lot of promise for the future, but Kendrick Nunn and Wayne Ellington may not prove too useful for a rebuilding team like the Pistons.
Nunn was the runner-up for the Rookie of the Year award in 2020, but the Pistons currently have Cade Cunningham and Killian Hayes in their backcourt. Where Kendrick Nunn would fit into the picture is a big question mark and if the Pistons wanted him, they could have signed him this offseason.
As for Wayne Ellington, he was a member of the Detroit Pistons during the 2018-19 season and during the 2020-21 season last year. At 33-years-old and turning 34 this year, Ellington does not present much of a future for Detroit, hence why they did not re-sign him in the offseason.
For the Lakers, Rodney McGruder would be nothing more than a possible three-point shooting threat on the end of their bench, but Jerami Grant could make a huge difference next to Westbrook, Davis and James.

Grant can defend, shoot from anywhere on the floor and can be an active floor general when guys like Westbrook and James are not in the game, which is why he is a valuable commodity for Los Angeles to target.
Right now, this Lakers team is really struggling with LeBron James out and seeing as he has now missed time each of the last three seasons, this team needs to be concerned with their 17x All-Star. They cannot afford to have him miss time and seeing as they have not been able to win without him this year, adding a guy like Grant could really ease things for this Lakers’ franchise.
Jerami Grant is the best trade option the Lakers could try to target ahead of the trade deadline this year, but as of right now, Detroit has shown no willingness to surrender their best talent.
