It is essential that the Dallas Mavericks look to add more scoring weapons this season if they are to actually win a playoff series for the first-time since 2011, the year they won their only championship.

While they just signed him to a big, long-term deal, Tom Hardaway Jr. is only averaging 14.1 points and is shooting 39% from the floor. Recently, Hardaway Jr. was taken out of the starting lineup and the Mavericks won by 32 points over the Pelicans.

Now, this was New Orleans so we should take this big win with a grain of salt, but having Hardaway come off-the-bench could be something we see the Mavericks do indefinitely now.

Making over $20M a year for the next four seasons, Tim Hardaway Jr. needs to be better than he has been and quite honestly, he is not the high-level player the Mavs are paying him to be.

The sharpshooting wing is a great offensive-minded talent, but he is nothing more than a secondary scorer, which makes his contract in the long-run unfavorable to the Mavericks. Trading him right now may not be such a terrible idea, especially since Harrison Barnes and Marvin Bagley III could contribute right away for this team.

Scoring 21 or more points in 9 of his first 13 games, Harrison Barnes began the year as the Kings go-to scorer on the wing and he has scored in double-figures in all but one game this season.

Averaging 19.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and shooting 47.8% from the floor, 39.8% from three-point range on the season, Barnes has proven once again to be a factor on offense.

Dallas did trade Barnes to Sacramento after 2.5 years with the team, so bringing him back may not be the best move for both sides to make, but given his numbers this year, Harrison Barnes could definitely help the Dallas Mavericks on offense.

As for Marvin Bagley III, both he and his agent seem to be fed up with the way things have gone in Sacramento and they have not been quiet about their opinions. After not receiving an extension prior to the start of this season, the former second overall pick is likely to leave the Kings in the offseason, hence why they could look to trade him before so.

The Mavericks do not necessarily need more frontcourt players, but Bagley can be an excellent pick-and-roll threat with Luka Doncic, as well as a post-up scorer next to Kristaps Porzingis in the frontcourt.

Sacramento may not be ready to “throw in the towel” on this season yet and they may feel that making a trade like this could take them out of contention for a playoff spot. However, Barnes and Bagley do not have long-term futures with the team and all three of the guys they would get from Dallas could help this team potentially win games right now.

Tim Hardaway Jr. is a steady perimeter shooter that would help the Kings on the perimeter, Willie Cauley-Stein is another big man they could have off-the-bench for more rebounding depth and Dorian Finney-Smith is kind of a “do-it-all” kind of player in the sense that he can play well on either ends of the floor.
