76ers need a third star in order to contend for a title

Everybody knows about all the drama over the months between the Philadelphia 76ers and Ben Simmons, but what a lot of people tend to forget is how much of an impact Simmons made for this team. He was one of their primary facilitators on offense and defensively, he was one of the best players in the entire league!

The 76ers do not need Ben Simmons in order to win a title, but they do need someone else next to Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris. Tyrese Maxey, Seth Curry and Shake Milton have all played great to begin the season and are all averaging double-digit scoring numbers on the year, but should we really feel confident in their abilities to lift this team to a championship?

Curry, Maxey and Milton are fantastic secondary talents, but none of these three guys have what it takes to be the third star on this team. Whether it is bringing Simmons back or trading him or someone else, the 76ers are still another high-level talent away from being a real contending threat in the Eastern Conference.

They are currently 11-10 and have dealt with a ton of injuries/illnesses on their roster that have caused them to slip in the standings a bit, but their record is kind of reflective of what kind of team they are. With Embiid and Harris finally healthy and on the court, this team is going to begin to rise back up the standings, but do not let their record fool you.

This Philly team is not as good as the Nets, Heat and Bucks in the Eastern Conference because unlike those three other teams, the 76ers do not have a third star they can rely on.

Maybe you can say this about the Nets too seeing as Kyrie Irving has not played, but they have LaMarcus Aldridge and Patty Mills, two veterans with All-Star and championship experience that can play at a high enough level for Kevin Durant and James Harden to excel at what they do.

The 76ers really do not have that third guy outside of Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris right now, which is ultimately going to be their downfall once again this season.

Finding a way to cut their losses with Ben Simmons and move him for any kind of high-level player is going to be essential for this franchise, especially since he is just rotting away on their roster right now.

Maybe they will not get another All-Star for him, but bringing in one or two other key talents could go a long way for the 76ers to become a real threat in the Eastern Conference. Joel Embiid can only do so much for this team and given his injury concerns, finding that third star-level talent is going to be essential for them ahead of the trade deadline.
