Right now, the Dallas Mavericks are definitely a really solid team, but nothing about them instill fear in their opponents. Of course Luka Doncic is a focal point and one of the best players in the entire NBA, but teams are not circling Dallas on their schedule like they are with teams like the Nets, Warriors and Suns.

The Mavericks are not a team to beat in the Western Conference and quite honestly, it is hard to see them winning a playoff series given how this team is constructed.

Doncic’s contract is going to be increasing by a wide margin next season and with about $140M already owed in contracts for next season, this team does not really have the ability to pull off a trade for another All-Star quality talent.

Going after a player like Eric Gordon is the next best thing the Mavericks can do for themselves, especially since Gordon has experience playing with some of the best stars of the league. His experiences with James Harden, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook and others as their “sidekick” would make him a great secondary scorer next to Doncic in Dallas.

For his career, Eric Gordon has averaged 16.5 points, 2.8 assists and has shot 36.9% from three-point range, making him a well-rounded scorer that can also defend at a high-level. While his 13.3 points per game this season is the lowest of his career, Gordon’s role on this young Rockets team has also decreased and he is not taking as many shots as he has in the past.

If he was traded to the Mavericks, there would be no concerns with what kind of production he could give them on offense and it is not hard to believe that the veteran wing could become one of Dallas’ best three-point weapons next to Tim Hardway Jr. and Maxi Kleber.

Danuel House Jr. is another key asset for the Mavericks to add in this trade, as he is a career 36.4% three-point shooter. Dallas ranks 22nd in the league right now in tram three-point shooting percentage, which is why addressing this need for perimeter shooters is a must at the trade deadline if they are to be a threat in the playoffs.

As for Houston both Gordon and House are two veteran players that they would be more than happy to move on from for value. They do not have much overall talent in their frontcourt right now, so both Willie Cauley-Stein and Dwight Powell could play a role for the time being.

Plus, who is not to say that the Houston Rockets could not look to flip Cauley-Stein or Powell for future assets as well? Josh Green is a 21-year-old former first-round pick with a lot of potential to grow into a sturdy two-way player on the wing. Houston is rebuilding and Green could fit right in with the culture they are trying to build.
