Would this trade make sense for the Toronto Raptors?
The Toronto Raptors not far removed from winning its first championship in franchise history. Kawhi Leonard is no longer in town and Kyle Lowry was moved in the offseason.
The Raptors are clearly on a new path and as of now, it is not a successful one. Masai Ujiri is one of the best front-office minds in the game. He knows a thing or two about rebuilding a roster and finding a deal that could benefit his side. This is what he will have to do here.
With Scottie Barnes playing so well as a rookie and OG Anunoby improving as well, there isn’t as much need to keep a hefty contract for a player who is best playing the four spot. Pascal Siakam is capable of playing small ball five but isn’t necessarily built for it full-time.
Siakam is improving each year and has plenty of value in the frontcourt. The Raptors could look to move him in return for some salary relief, which could give Ujiri plenty of options with what to do with his team’s financial situation.

On the floor, Hield would join VanVleet in what could become a strong backcourt. Homes would be the replacement down low and the Raptors would be a bit more balanced. Moving Siakam would be a bit of a surprise but nothing is impossible when a team is deciding to blow it up.
