Does this trade make sense for the Houston Rockets?

Daniel Theis has proven to be a really solid player in the Houston Rockets system so far this season and next to Christian Wood, he could be a key part of this team’s frontcourt for the next several seasons. If they did not want him long-term, the Rockets would not have signed Theis to a four-year deal this past offseason.

They obviously want the former Celtics’ big man to play a role on this young team, so why would they be willing to trade him to the Lakers in Year 1 of his deal for a veteran center that would be waived in DeAndre Jordan and a guard in Kendrick Nunn who would not really play a role for this team either?

Kendrick Nunn is a former Rookie of the Year finalist and a young talent in his own right, but the Rockets do not have room nor a need for him since they have Kevin Porter Jr. and Jalen Green running the show in the backcourt.

Trading Theis is a possibility, but the Rockets would have to be getting fair compensation for him, which they would not be getting in this trade. Neither Nunn nor Jordan help the Rockets right now or long-term, so there is no reason for them to make this trade.

Again, if the Houston Rockets did not want Daniel Theis, they would not have signed him this past offseason and if they did not plan on keeping him past this season, they would’ve signed him to a one or two-year deal, not a four-year deal.

It appears as the German big man is going to be staying in Houston for at least the next year, as he looks to help this team with their rebuild and player development in the frontcourt.
