This Lakers-Rockets Trade Involves Intriguing Big Man To L.A.

The Houston Rockets traded away James Harden last season and as a result, Houston is now rebuilding. Beginning the 2021-22 NBA season 1-10, it is very clear that this rebuilding process is going to take a while for the Rockets, but the future is definitely bright for them.

Christian Wood has been a “diamond in the rough” that they found last free agency and with plenty of high-level, young talents in Kevin Porter Jr., Jalen Green, Josh Christopher, Usman Garuba, Alperen Sengun, and many more, the Rockets have a very strong foundation already.

Time is all this group needs to become a factor and while the Houston Rockets’ staff continues to focus on player development, their front office is going to be looking for ways to leverage some veteran players for future assets and draft picks.

John Wall, Eric Gordon, Danuel House Jr., and D.J. Augustin are all players the Houston Rockets are going to be looking to move on from, but one player on their roster who could draw some interest at the trade deadline is Daniel Theis.

Houston inked Theis to a four-year, $35.6M deal this offseason, making it unlikely that the team would look to trade him. However, there could be several teams around the league that inquire about the 29-year-old big man because of his ability to score and defend.

One of those teams who could show interest in Theis is the Los Angeles Lakers. Adding high-level, experienced talents was the main goal of the Lakers this past offseason and they came away with adding Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, Rajon Rondo, Dwight Howard, DeAndre Jordan, and many others.

Entering the year with title aspirations, the Lakers still remain a championship contender but have some problems to sort out roster-wise. LeBron James being out with an abdominal injury has not helped things, but the Lakers seem relatively weak on the interior.

Anthony Davis is a Defensive Player of the Year candidate, but DeAndre Jordan and Dwight Howard have struggled to find any sort of rhythm so far this season. Could the Lakers look to add another center as a result?

Not having much cap space and only having three guaranteed contracts for next season so far, the Lakers are a team that oftentimes does not look to be tied down to long-term deals, so this could result in them not targeting Daniel Theis in a trade, but let’s take a look at a trade proposal put together by Hoops Habit’s Jack Simone that sends Theis to Los Angeles.
