Does this trade make sense for the Philadelphia 76ers?
The Philadelphia 76ers continue to be motivated to move Ben Simmons at some point, but the value for him just is not there right now. They want an All-Star in return for Simmons, but no team in the league has been willing to move said player for the 3x All-Star.
As a result, the Sixers are wanting Ben Simmons to return to the court now that way his value can increase, but he has been unwilling to work with the team over the last several weeks and just doesn’t seem to care about anything in Philadelphia right now other than getting paid.
This toxic situation does not appear to have an end in sight right now, which is why the 76ers should be thrilled to death if they can acquire Kyrie Irving for Ben Simmons. The worst thing that happens is that Irving’s ego does not mesh well with that of Embiid and Harris, resulting in him opting out of his contract next offseason.
In this case, the 76ers could have the option to trade him in the offseason to a team Irving would prefer to go to, or, the 76ers would give a ton of cap space for once that they could finally utilize to bring in a third star player next to Embiid and Harris.

There is really no “loss” in this trade scenario for the Philadelphia 76ers, which is why they would absolutely be interested in this trade. Kyrie Irving fits in their system much better than that of Ben Simmons given his ability to not only facilitate but be a primary scorer as well.
A trio of Joel Embiid, Kyrie Irving and Tobias Harris would make the Philadelphia 76ers the best team in the Eastern Conference and immediate title favorites once again in the entire NBA.
